Kenneth Eugene Smith

Kenneth Eugene Smith, affectionately known as Ken, passed away on April 7, 2026, just shy of his 84th birthday. Born on May 1, 1942, in Springfield, Illinois, Ken lived a life marked by quiet strength, steadfast resolve, and a deep connection to family and community.

A man of few words, Ken's calm and measured demeanor was notable. Known among those close to him for being slow to anger but unwavering in his convictions, he carried himself with a dignified composure throughout his years. His youth was spent enjoying the great outdoors — fishing, hunting, and boating were pastimes he particularly cherished, especially when shared with his beloved wife, Nancy.

Ken's commitment to service and country was demonstrated through his tenure in the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably and was discharged with distinction, reflecting the same integrity that defined the rest of his life.

Beyond his military service, Ken was an active and proud member of the Mason's Lodge and participated meaningfully in the Local Shriner's Community. These affiliations were a testament to his dedication to fraternity and fellowship. A quieter pursuit he embraced was painting ceramics alongside Nancy, a beloved activity that enriched their years together. Additionally, Ken had a fondness for television, especially classic Western movies, which brought him much enjoyment.

Ken is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy Smith; his brother Ron Smith, along with Ron’s wife Joan; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Smith. He is also remembered fondly by a surrounding network of family members and friends who cherished his gentle spirit and steadfast loyalty.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carroll Eugene Smith; mother, Pauline Elizabeth Smith; and brother, Richard Smith.

Kenneth Eugene Smith’s life was one of quiet dignity and endurance. His legacy remains in the loving bonds of family, the communities he served, and the memories held dear by those who knew him best.
