Larry "Large" Laughlin

Larry “Large” Laughlin, born August 29, 1950, passed away on July 29, 2026.

Larry was a proud native of St. Louis, Missouri, and built a respected career as a Pipecoverer with Local 1, St. Louis, Missouri. His commitment to his craft was matched only by his strong sense of camaraderie and fellowship within the trade union and his active involvement in the Democratic Party and the Labor Club. Larry was a steadfast advocate for working people in his community and participated in outreach and support initiatives that touched the lives of many.

A passionate supporter of all things St. Louis, Larry was known for his enthusiastic following of local sports teams. He found great joy in watching his grandchildren participate in sports, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on from the sidelines. Family was always at the center of Larry’s life, and he cherished every gathering, whether it was a backyard barbecue, a shared meal at a favorite restaurant, or a trip to the movies.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary K. Laughlin; his father, William Lawrence Laughlin; and his mother, Lorene Laughlin. Their memory and values continued to inspire Larry throughout his life.

He is survived by his two daughters, Maureen Gist and Elizabeth M. Turner (Jason Everitt); his son, William “Bill” L. (Meredith) Laughlin; and his cherished grandchildren, Brittany Laughlin, Trevor Laughlin, Connor Laughlin, Samantha Gist, Danielle Gist, and Delaney Gist. Larry’s devotion extended to his siblings, including sisters Linda Laughlin and Debbie (Tim) Boyle and brother Kevin (Julie) Laughlin. He will be fondly remembered by a wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends who were touched by his generosity and warmth.

With a zest for life, especially when it came to barbecuing, dining out, and enjoying the movies, Larry shared many happy moments with his loved ones. His engaging spirit, commitment to causes close to his heart, and unwavering support for his family and community leave a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
