Lucy Tiwonge Nyirongo

Dr. Lucy Tiwonge Nyirongo, a beloved daughter, sister, and mother, was born on January 22, 1975, in Blantyre, Malawi. She lived in Saint Louis, Missouri, and passed away on April 3, 2025. Lucy leaves behind a legacy of dedication to healthcare, as well as the warmth of love and care she shared with everyone she met, especially her family.

Lucy was a nurse practitioner and served as a nurse for over 15 years. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Community Health, a Master of Science in Community Health, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice, all from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lucy had a passion for travel. She visited 40 states, Jamaica, Mexico, and her home country of Malawi. She cherished new experiences, especially those involving food and nature. Lucy was well-connected within her community through her work as a nurse and was known for her warmth and love for spending time with friends and family. She was a dedicated daughter, sister, a wonderful aunt, and a cherished mother to her daughter, Sekani.

Lucy is survived by her beloved mother, Rosemary Nyirongo; her daughter, Sekani; her sisters, Tchule Moore (Tim Moore), Pacharo Ndupu (Sam Ndupu), Doreen Myrie, and Rhoda Nyirongo; her brothers, Harold and Chimwemwe Nyirongo; her nieces, Bethany Myrie and Thandie Nyirongo; her nephews, Elo and Justin Ndupu, Christopher Moore; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Dryson B. Nyirongo; a dear brother, David Nyirongo; and her paternal grandparents, Tchulekile Soko and Jonasi Nyirongo of Nkhamenya, District of Kasungu, as well as her maternal grandparents, Moses Godolire Munthali and Rhoda Mvula of Ekwendeni District, Mzimba, Malawi.

A visitation and prayer reception will be held on May 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM to honor Lucy’s life. The family requests flowers and donations. Donations can be made to the Sekani Muhale Fund for her daughter’s future financial needs.

Lucy’s spirit of love and kindness will continue to resound with all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Lucy, you have been a blessing from the start. We love you forever. Rest in God’s loving arms.
