Marin “Mo” J. Garza, born in St. Charles, Missouri, on December 25, 1947, and passed away with joy and laughter around him on April 23, 2026.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna; his girls, Holly Garza, Cindy Wakeman (Ryan); his adored granddaughters, Bella, Allie, Quinn, and Laney; his siblings, Gene Garza (Nancy), Susan Miller (Ed), and Sandy Rowe; sister-in-law, Kathy Garza; as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Marin, affectionately known as “Mo,” will be remembered for his quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and feisty personality. He had a way of making people laugh and made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed bowling and golf throughout his adult life and could often be found working on crossword puzzles like a human dictionary. He was also well known for wearing shorts year-round, even in the middle of winter.
He loved watching sports with the volume down and playing game shows, often beating everyone around him with the answers. Mo enjoyed trying his luck with slot machines, keno, and scratch-offs. He was happiest placing bets with his son-in-law Ryan, drinking with his nephew Mike or at Tubby’s, surrounded by his lifelong friends.
Mo coached his daughters for many years while also mentoring hundreds of girls in softball and basketball. His competitive nature often led his teams to league and tournament championships. He took great pride with the lasting impact he made on the many athletes he coached.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abundio and Esther Garza; brother, Joe Garza; nephew, David Garza; and many friends who, we are sure, greeted him with a Bloody Mary.
Mo will be deeply missed and fondly remembered, especially whenever there’s laughter, good stories and cold drinks.
A celebration of Mo’s life will be held in the Hall at Tubby’s Pub ‘n Grub on May 1, 2026, from 5:00-8:00 PM. Feel free to dress casually and comfortably.
