Mary Hammett, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on May 25, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on July 15, 1927, Mary filled her years with love, laughter, and a remarkable spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Mary was a dedicated and loving mother to her four children: Robert Hammett, Roger Hammett, Ronald Hammett and Marilyn Igou. She cherished the time spent with her family, and her bond with her husband, Lynn Hammett, was particularly special. Mary’s nurturing nature extended beyond her children to her grandchildren, who will always remember her youthful spirit and the joy she brought into their lives. Roderick Stone, Josh (Amanda Frost) Hammett, Tonya (Brian) Weinzerl, Samantha Olendorff, and Justin (Charese Little Elk) Hammett were fortunate to bask in her warmth and light, as were her four great-grandchildren: Charlie, Cheyenne, Hunter, and Mackenzie.
Throughout her life, Mary was known for her hard work and resilience. Even into her late 80s, she mowed her own lawn. An avid lover of animals, she found joy in every creature, matching her great heart with a beautiful personality that left a lasting impression on all those who crossed her path. A talented cook, Mary was famous for her delicious homemade cakes, which brought delight to family gatherings and celebrations.
Mary had experienced significant loss throughout her life, having been preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lynn, as well as her son, Ronald Hammett. She also mourned the passing of her son-in-law, Craig Samuel Igou, and daughter-in-law, Jewel Hammett. Her mother, Elpha Meranda, along with her siblings—brothers Clarence and Joe Meranda, and sisters Alice Fermann and Mildred Graves—also now greet her in rest.
Her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will remain alive through her surviving family members and a host of friends who will miss her dearly.
