Maryellen Patricia Selinger (née Talleur), 80, of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. She was born on February 20, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Frank and Virginia Talleur.
Maryellen grew up in St. Louis, where she attended St. Mark’s High School and made many lifelong friends. She devoted 19 years to the Hazelwood School District, serving as a teacher clerk and secretary in several elementary schools and at the district’s Administration Building.
In 1997, she moved to St. Peters, where she met her husband, Jim. After she retired from Hazelwood, the two enjoyed traveling together, gardening, and spending time on their porch with family and friends. She also gave her time as a longtime volunteer at the Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital Gift Shop and attended Zion Lutheran Church.
Maryellen had a gift for connecting with people, and she cherished the relationships she built throughout her life, from school and work to her neighborhood and community. She was known for her love of the holidays and her festive decorations, especially snowmen; her collection grew over the years, as friends were always happy to add one more. She adored her children and grandchildren and made it a point to be at as many of their events as she could, always showing up with love and support.
Maryellen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and she will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Selinger, and her parents, Frank and Virginia Talleur.
She is survived by her children, Matt (Amy) Reiter and Jamie Reiter; stepchildren, Bob (Jo Ann) Selinger and Karen (the late Ben) Williams; grandchildren, Elliot Reiter, Weslie Reiter, Chase Reiter, Madison Scott, David (Elizabeth) Selinger, Thomas (Yahira) Selinger, Sydney (Taylorr) Gutierrez, and Katie (Daniel) Ellis; great-grandchildren, Adelaide Selinger, Jamess Gutierrez, and Hellaina Gutierrez; brother, Tim (Sharon) Talleur; nieces, Renee (Nick) Zerillo and Nichole (Ryan) Dillon; great-nieces, Lauren Spakowski and Sophie Spakowski; and many dear friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376, followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m.
