It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Melissa Ann Smith, affectionately known as Missy, who left us on September 12, 2025, at the age of 46. Born on April 17, 1979, in Springfield, Illinois, Melissa graced our lives with her warmth and laughter.
Melissa is survived by her beloved mother, Linda Atchison (Buddy) Garcia, her cherished daughter, Gabrielle Rose Perry, and her precious grandchildren, Willow Rae and Waylon James. Her legacy continues through her loving sisters, Rebecca Smith, Amanda Farrar, and Angel Garcia, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever hold her in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her father, Mark Smith, who she loved dearly.
Missy found joy in the great outdoors, often spending time by the rivers and creeks with her family and grandchildren. Her passion for life was reflected not only in her love for the natural world but also through her spirited engagement with art, music, and literature. She also loved animals and had several beloved pets throughout her life, including a pet squirrel she rescued, cats, and dogs.
Known for her dedication, Melissa had a strong work ethic and proudly held various roles throughout her life, including that of an aerobics instructor and a licensed personal trainer. Her enjoyment of health and fitness highlighted her zest for life.
A private family viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri, allowing her family to honor and celebrate her memory in a personal setting. A public celebration of her life will be planned in Eminence, Missouri, at a later date, where all who knew and loved Melissa will have the opportunity to share their memories and reflect on the light she brought into our lives.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Missy's name to your local Women's Shelter, Animal Shelter, or The Mental Health Foundation US.
While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the memorable woman she was—her love and her laughter will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. Rest in peace, dear Melissa. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
