Melvin Ray Simmons, affectionately known to many as Butch, was born on January 8, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away peacefully on October 26 2024, in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Butch lived a life dedicated to his family and community. He devoted many years to driving a school bus, where he truly shined, lovingly caring for the children who climbed aboard each day. His nurturing nature extended beyond driving; he was a proud Eagle Scout, instilling in others the value of camaraderie and service. Butch's personality was characterized by his simplicity and boundless generosity. He had an incredible ability to make those around him feel special, always ready with a warm smile and genuine enthusiasm as if each person were the most important person in the world.
Fond memories of Butch include the joyful gatherings at Woodland Lakes, where he would host impromptu campfires with new friends he welcomed into his circle. Everyone wondered who he would bring around next, highlighting his gift for making connections and fostering friendships. Butch had a particular affinity for Western movies and old country music, often regaling family and friends with tales from his younger, wilder days—stories that sparked laughter and nostalgia.
He leaves behind a devoted wife, Donna Joan Simmons, who shared in his adventures and joys. His loving daughters, Melanie Simmons and Christy (Brian) Barrett, along with Lucinda Quinn and Chari McKenzie, will carry forward the lessons he taught them in love and kindness. Butch is survived by his brothers, Mike (Donna) Noonan and Bob Noonan, and brother-in-law Bill (Sara) Dahlheimer, whom he held close to his heart.
He treasured his grandchildren, always taking pride in their accomplishments: Joshua (Allyson) Nagel, Zach Nagel, Katy Jacquemin, Aly Jacquemin, and Patrick Parks, along with his great-grandchild, Tate Dusenberg. The impact Butch had on all their lives is immeasurable, filled with warmth, guidance, and unconditional love.
