Michael James Ashburn, known affectionately as Mike, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his beloved family on June 1, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on February 26, 1954, in Decatur, Illinois, Mike lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to both his family and his faith.

A proud graduate of Maryville University, Mike obtained his Bachelor's degree in Computer Technology. Over the course of an impressive 50-year career in computer technology, he spent the bulk of his professional life at Silicon Graphics Incorporated and Sharp, collaborating closely with Boeing. His work was a source of joy for him, reflecting his passion for technology and innovation.

Mike was described as funny, and incredibly loving, he was an inviting and faithful husband, father, papa, and friend. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, generously offering his time and resources to those in need.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Mike's deep faith guided him throughout his life. He served diligently as a Church Elder, where he invested his effort in Youth Ministry by utilizing his passion for teaching, helping high school students navigate their paths. He also led the Missions Team, embodying the spirit of service and compassion that defined his character. He enjoyed writing and presenting communion meditations for his Church Congregation, enriching the lives of all who had the privilege to hear him speak. In his spare time, Mike would enjoy, going to the beach, cigars, Pepsi, and driving his Jeep.

Above all, Mike's proudest accomplishments revolved around his cherished family. He was married for 54 wonderful years to his devoted wife, Jennie Ashburn, with whom he shared countless memories and experiences. His two daughters, Dee Dee (Shane) Adkisson and Micki (Richard) Pettit, brought immeasurable joy and pride into his life, and he reveled in the laughter and love of his grandchildren: Kevin (Jessi) Pettit, Samantha (Joe) Krankka, Riley (Breeyn) Adkisson, Lexi (Ahmad) Pettit, Shelby Adkisson, and Aidan Pettit. He was also a doting great-grandfather to Phoenix Pettit, Phinley Pettit, Axel Krankka, Knox Krankka, Nicholas Brown, and Bashy Brown, along with his bonus great-grandchildren, Dawsyn Lane, Karsyn Lane, and Presly Lane. Each one held a special place in his heart, and he made it a priority to spend quality time with them, sharing in their joy and growth. Mike is also survived by his brother, Steve (Tara) Hancock, who mourns the loss of a truly remarkable sibling.

Mike is preceded in death by his loving parents, Paul Hancock and Marjorie Ashburn, as well as his stepfather, Pat Ashburn.

As we bid farewell to Mike, we honor a life that was truly well-lived. Through his unwavering kindness, humor, and love, he touched the hearts of many. He leaves behind not just a legacy of professional achievement but, more importantly, a rich tapestry of family and friendship that will forever cherish his memory.
