Michael W. Black, known affectionately as Mike, of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on September 16, 1945, in Ironton, Missouri, Mike dedicated his life to taking care of his family and touching the lives of others through his long-standing career in education.

Mike began his professional journey as a social studies teacher at Pattonville High School, mentoring and inspiring countless students with his passion for learning and knowledge. In addition to teaching, he coached girls basketball for several years. After 18 years in the classroom, he transitioned to the role of assistant principal in charge of the Positive School, an alternative education program, leaving an indelible mark on both students and colleagues.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mike was known for his kind and caring nature. He characterized thoughtfulness, always prioritizing the needs of his family and friends. In addition, Mike exemplified fairness in how he treated others and he believed in giving people second chances.

Mike had a variety of interests that enriched his life. He was an avid golfer, reveling in the sport throughout his life, especially once he retired. Fishing was one of his main pastimes growing up and in early adulthood, and his children fondly recall many fishing trips and time spent on the water with family and friends. He also greatly enjoyed reading, discussing books, and listening to music.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy Black; his son, Brad (Alicia) Black; his daughter, Stephanie (Jim) Frerker; his stepson Greg (Jen) LaRose; and son-in-law, Seth Besowshek. He was a cherished grandfather to his seven grandchildren—Emily Black, Katie Black, Isaac Black, Sarah Frerker, Jack Frerker, Ethan Besowshek, and Tyler Besowshek—who brought immense joy to his life. Additionally, he leaves behind a host of other family members and friends who will remember him fondly.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Vernon Black; mother, Helen Evelyn Black; stepdaughter, Jen Besowshek; and two brothers, Ken Black and Keith Black. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will endure.
