Listen to Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness, I share with you the passing of Michael Duane Vanover on June 23, 2026. Mike was born on October 14, 1952 in Lubbock, TX to Edward and Shirley Vanover, who preceded him in death. His brother Greg resides in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico,

Mike and I (Marsha) were married in 1973 and shared 52 years together. His love of family was his greatest strength. Our daughter Sarah, grandchildren Hannah Elizabeth, Joel Michael and Addison Marie were the sparkle in his eye. They made him smile and kept him on his toes. He was so proud of them. Mike was an accomplished musician playing guitar, fiddle and mandolin. He loved bluegrass jamming and breaking into an old tyme fiddle tune. He will be remembered for picking and singing his favorites "Walking the Dog" and "More Pretty Girls than One". He was also known to sneak in a Simon and Garfunkel, Gordon Lightfoot or Beatles tune when the mood struck. Mike enjoyed camping, fishing, golf and being a mister fix it. He loved aviation but was afraid to fly, enjoyed sports as a spectator and video poker was his friend. He was a TCM channel junkie. We spent spent many hours together watching the classic movies and reciting the lines along with the actors. John Wayne was his hero. The Three Stoges were just ridiculously fun. Mike still held a special place in his heart for Texas, especially cousins Connie and Walter.

We will truly miss his silly grin, whit and odd ball sayings. Our comfort is knowing he is in heaven, and once again walking tall, playing music and singing with family and friends.
