Nancy Elizabeth Smith

Nancy Elizabeth Smith, née Clark, passed away very peacefully on July 24, 2026, in O’Fallon, Missouri, just shy of her 78th birthday. Born on October 7, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, Nancy has left a lasting mark on the many lives she touched with her boundless generosity, warmth, and indomitable spirit.

Nancy grew up in St. Louis, enveloped by the loving care of her parents, George Charles Clark and Clara Sonora Clark, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a proud graduate of the Normandy High School Class of 1967, where her sharp mind and vibrant energy were evident even then.

One of Nancy’s defining characteristics was her giving nature. She was always the first to step forward when someone was in need, her presence comforting and her actions steadfast. To those closest to her, Nancy’s candor was a familiar trait—she spoke her mind freely, never holding back, sometimes with a touch of bossiness that belied her deep care for her siblings and friends. Beneath her directness was kindness; people gravitated toward her not only for her honesty but for her unwavering loyalty and generosity. She was the kind of person who would drop everything to support those she loved, always present through life’s joys and hardships.

Nancy treasured her long and loving marriage to her beloved husband, Kenneth Eugene Smith. They shared 48 years together, a union marked by devotion and partnership, before his passing earlier this year—a loss she felt deeply but faced with the same strength that defined her life.

Her work at Steinlage Insurance Agency was a source of great pride and fulfillment. As an executive assistant, Nancy was indispensable, expertly managing many aspects of the business. She possessed tremendous job knowledge, quickly earning the respect and trust of colleagues who depended on her thorough understanding and commitment.

Nancy’s life was also a tapestry woven with creativity and artistic talent. Her love of crafts found expression in pottery and ceramics, where she created beautiful pieces that family and friends cherished. She was passionate about scrapbooking and memory books, capturing special moments and ensuring memories were preserved and celebrated. A voracious reader, Nancy found solace and excitement in the world of books—a testament to her curiosity and love of learning.

Amid her many passions, nothing captured Nancy’s heart quite like her dog, Smokey. Loyal and ever-present, Smokey offered comfort and companionship, remaining faithfully by Nancy’s side during her final illness.

She is survived by her loving brother, Gary Clark; her devoted sister, Kay Clark (Timothy Acuff); her cherished niece, Claire Scott (Jonathan); treasured grand-nephew Anthony Acuff; her precious grand-nieces, Leah Scott and Emmy Scott; and her beloved Smokey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Eugene Smith; her father, George Charles Clark; and her mother, Clara Sonora Clark.

Nancy’s life was defined by love—devoted to her husband, loyal to her family, present for her friends, and gentle toward her beloved pet. Her legacy endures in the memories she created, the people she touched, and in the small joys she brought to everyday moments.

As her family and friends remember Nancy Elizabeth Smith, they take comfort in the knowledge that her spirit continues to inspire the generosity, creativity, and candor she modeled so beautifully throughout her life. She will be missed beyond measure, loved deeply, and remembered always.

Nancy will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Jefferson Barracks National Ceremony, with her beloved husband, Kenneth.
