Nanetta Jane Van Fleet, affectionately known as Jane, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, in O'Fallon, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 9, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky, Jane was a vibrant soul whose warmth and compassion touched everyone she met.
Throughout her life, Jane was the embodiment of fun and color, weaving joy and laughter into the lives of those around her with her witty humor and caring nature. She had an undeniable passion for life, reflected in her love of flowers and the beauty of botanical gardens. These lovely places brought her great joy and a sense of peace, serving as a reminder of the beauty she created in the world.
Jane's home was a hub of activity; her hobbies included cooking shows, shopping—especially online shopping with a particular fondness for Temu—and doing crafts. She devoted time to her family, always sharing her culinary skills and creativity with those she loved. Her proudest accomplishments were her family, especially her three loving children: Angela (Rob) Worstenholm, Founta (Robert) Jones, and Travis (Terrie) Van Fleet. Jane treasured the moments spent with her grandchildren: Samantha (Josh) Schneider, Danielle Jones, Katherine (Fiancé, Jarrod Ouzts) Jones, James (Fiancée, Kyrstin Korte) Chaney, Zachary Chaney, and Jelena Van Fleet. The joy that radiated from her great-grandchildren, Theodore Schneider, Claire Schneider, Michael Ouzts, and Jackson Van Fleet, further enriched her life.
Jane shared a beautiful 17-year marriage with her beloved husband, James Austen Van Fleet, whose memory remains a cherished part of her legacy. She is also reunited in spirit with her loving mother, Irene Basham, her father, Walter Schiphorst, and her long-time companion of 30 years, Ronald Franklin (PawPaw).
Her vibrant personality and loving spirit will be remembered dearly by her family and friends. A graveside service to honor her remarkable life will be held at Byrneville Cemetery in Byrneville, Indiana, on July 5, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM. The service will be a celebration of the love, laughter, and life Jane so generously shared and a moment for all to reflect on the joyous memories her spirit leaves behind.
