It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Patricia Jane Benson, who left this world peacefully on May 30, 2025, in Overland, Missouri, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 21, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, Pat spread warmth and joy throughout her remarkable 89 years on earth.
Pat was a graduate of Mercy High School, class of 1953, and attended Washington University. Following her education, she embarked on her career at Garland's Department Store and Brown's shoes. Her journey through life saw her embrace numerous roles, including a bookkeeper at Associated Shippers, employment at Emery Air Freight, and ultimately the establishment of her own travel business, Action Travel. Most recently, she served as a travel consultant at People's Bank and Trust in Troy, Missouri, where she touched the lives of many with her expertise and genuine care.
Beyond her professional achievements, Pat was cherished for her vibrant personality and loving spirit. She had a unique ability to form connections with everyone she encountered, treating them as if they were family. Her laughter was contagious, and her kindness knew no bounds. Pat had a special affection for babies, often expressing her desire to shower them with affection, showcasing her gentle and nurturing nature.
Pat’s adventures took her traveling across the globe, allowing her to make lifelong friendships with people from all walks of life. Each relationship she nurtured became a cherished part of her expansive family. Her dedication extended to her community, where she actively participated with the Judevine Center, fundraising to support children with autism. Pat was also an invaluable member of the Saint Ann Sodality Society at All Souls Catholic Church, where she devoted her time to serve others and strengthen her faith. Additionally, her efforts with the Overland Beautification Committee demonstrated her commitment to making her community a better place.
She leaves behind her beloved family: her daughters Peggy (Paul) Lang, Katherine Gunn, and Patricia Gunn; her son Ronald Maniscalco; her grandchildren Christina De Larosa, Kady Bock, Ryan Lang, and Ashley Hughes; and her cherished great-grandchildren Julian De Larosa, Alexis Bock, Mary Jane Tucker, Johnny Hughes, and Sami Hughes. Pat is also survived by her sister, JoAnn Forister. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charles E. Benson; her loving parents, Julius and Irene Sherrillo; and her son, David Hughes.
Pat’s impact on those around her was profound and enduring. We invite friends and family to honor her life at a Memorial Gathering on Monday, June 16, 2025, starting at 9:30 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, with services commencing at 1:00 PM.
Patricia Jane Benson will forever be remembered for her laughter, love, and the immeasurable kindness she shared with the world. As we celebrate her life, let us carry her spirit with us, cherishing the invaluable lessons she taught us about love, family, and community.
