Paul Kachulis

February 12, 1954 — March 22, 2025

Paul William Kachulis, of Shrewsbury, MO, passed away on March 22, 2025, at the age of 71. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend who deeply valued family, community, the environment, and social justice. Known for his big personality and even bigger laugh, Paul brought warmth and energy to every room he entered. His thoughtful presence and lasting impact will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved him.

Born on February 12, 1954, in Kirksville, MO, Paul was the son of the late William and Gloria Kachulis. Growing up, he enjoyed biking around town with his brothers and hanging out at Pete’s Candyland, the family candy store. In early adulthood, Paul served in the military, helped renovate his parents’ home, and studied accounting at Northeast Missouri State (now Truman State University). These formative experiences shaped the kind, hardworking, and adventurous man so many came to know.

Family was at the heart of everything Paul did. On June 12, 1976, he married the love of his life, Peggy Ann Mittler, in Marthasville, MO. They shared 46 joyful years together, filled with love, laughter, and endless shared experiences with their two daughters, Christina and Andrea. Paul loved family travels—whether to Branson, Disney World, or destinations across Europe. These weren’t just vacations; they were chances of explore, spark curiosity, build memories, and strengthen family bonds. He also appreciated simple pleasures and enjoyed collecting baseball hats, toy cars, and German beer steins, tokens of his playful, curious spirit.

Professionally, Paul’s full-time career was as an auditor with the Department of Defense, where he was valued for his integrity, precision, and attention to detail. In addition, he opened his own accounting and tax business, where he cultivated not only a strong client base but meaningful, long-term relationships.

Giving back was also a core part of his life. At Peace United Church of Christ, Paul contributed his time and talents to church maintenance and finance. Alongside Peggy, he supported many favorite St. Louis organizations and events like First Night, the Festival of Nations, St. Louis Circus Flora, the Webster Groves Art Fair, and the Missouri Botanical Garden.

Paul is survived by his two daughters, Christina and Andrea, his brother Philip, and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy, his parents, William and Gloria, his brother, Peter, and his aunt, Georgia. Paul's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched with his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support. His memory will continue to inspire all who were lucky enough to know him.

Please join us to honor Paul’s life at his Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Werhli Chapel at Eden Theological Seminary, 475 East Lockwood Avenue, Webster Groves, MO.
