Listen to Obituary

Phillip Lee Wicks, known to most as Phil, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, in his home in O’Fallon, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 29, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, Phil lived a life defined by dedication, dry humor, and an impressive ability to keep a poker face—both at the card table and while chasing criminals.

Phil’s career in law enforcement was nothing short of remarkable. He served 25 years with the Berkeley Police Department, retiring as a beloved Sergeant, before continuing for another 13 years with the O’Fallon Police Department. Not one to rest on his laurels, he was also a firearms instructor, shaping the skills of fellow officers with the same passion he brought to every competition he entered. Everyone truly felt he was the best Sergeant to train under and learned so much working with him. Whether in handgun shooting contests, bowling leagues, softball games, or casual chess matches, Phil’s competitive spirit was as formidable as his sarcasm. And yes, he did enjoy winning, especially when it came to friendly games against his wife Cindy — a rivalry that would put reality TV showdowns to shame.

Phil met Cindy during a game of pool, proving that sometimes love does start in a smoky bar, amid the clack of billiard balls and good-natured trash talk. They shared 36 years of marriage filled with laughter, competition, and the kind of loyalty that only a stubborn, caring man like Phil could embody. Family meant the world to him; whether dancing at weddings (and soaking up the admiration that came with it) or bragging about the day’s events over drinks with his officer buddies during their midnight shift debriefs, Phil was always surrounded by those he loved.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy Wicks; his sons Phillip J. (Lori) Wicks and Adam (Michelle) Wicks; and grandchildren Zachary, Garrett, and Addison Wicks—all of whom were the pride and joy of his life. Phil’s family circle stretches further to include his sister Sandy (Richard) Lynch; niece Christina (Johnny) Painter; nephew Eric Fuss; and great-nieces and great-nephews Sara Painter, Nathan Sanchez, Brittany Fuss, Christian Fuss, and Jackson Fuss. They carry forward his legacy of love, loyalty, and just the right amount of stubbornness.

Phil was preceded in death by his son Daniel Wicks and his parents Clyde “Ray” and Ruby Wicks. They are undoubtedly greeting him now with a game of pool, a round of golf, or fishing the day away.

Phil’s services will be held on May 2, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed immediately by a memorial service until 2:00 PM.

For those who knew Phil, the image of his best smile, his quick wit, and his ability to light up every room—and dance floor—will remain forever. A man of many talents, fierce loyalty, and enough sarcasm to fill a police cruiser, Phillip Lee Wicks will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest well, Phil—you’ve earned it.
