Ralph Steven Heitman

March 21, 1949 — March 31, 2025

Ralph Steven Heitman, born on March 21, 1949 in Saint Louis, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025. A man of remarkable accomplishments and deep compassion, Ralph dedicated his life to education and service, profoundly impacting the lives of many throughout his career.

Ralph began his professional journey at McDonnell Douglas. He first developed his passion for teaching at Ranken Technical Institute, and later at MICDS. His peers often spoke of his knack for simplifying complex subjects, allowing his students to grasp and appreciate intricate concepts. Ralph was proud of his teaching career, and his influence on the lives of young students remains a testament to his dedication and empathy.

After a distinguished career in education, Ralph took on the role of Director of IT at the Monroe County Sheriff's Department in Key West, Florida, from which he later retired. This chapter of his life brought new experiences and memories, many of which he cherished deeply.

A lifelong learner, Ralph held degrees from the University of Minnesota and Ranken Technical Institute, where he simultaneously embraced the dual roles of student and teacher. His insatiable curiosity and love for reading kept him engaged with new ideas and knowledge throughout his life.

Outside of his professional life, Ralph enjoyed embracing nature through walking, kayaking, and hiking. He often found joy in these activities, especially when shared with family. Every two weeks, he would gather with his brothers for their beloved game of Dominos, creating warm memories filled with laughter. Known for his empathy and kindness, Ralph was an incredibly loving individual who found joy in the simplest of moments.

Ralph is survived by his cherished daughter, Mary (Chad) Agan, and his brothers, William Randolph (Therese) Heitman, Thomas Paul (Jane) Heitman, and John Patrick Heitman. He leaves behind a host of other family members and friends who will remember him fondly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Byron Heitman, and his mother, Rose Anna Heitman. As a proud pacifist, Ralph's gentle spirit and love for all living beings will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we remember Ralph Steven Heitman, let us carry forward his legacy of kindness, curiosity, and love.
