Listen to Obituary

Richard Lee Hendel, affectionately known as Rich, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, in Chesterfield, Missouri, at the age of 78. Born on April 9, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, Rich lived a life marked by devotion, hard work, and deep, meaningful relationships.

Rich's journey through life was characterized by many accomplishments, both personal and professional. Over his distinguished career in the pharmaceutical industry, he earned multiple sales academy awards, a testament to his dedication and skill. Yet, perhaps his proudest accomplishments were not accolades or honors but the steadfast love and commitment he showed to those closest to him — a marriage that spanned 57 years with his beloved wife, Pam Hendel, and his cherished role as a devoted father to his son, Scott, and daughter, Lori. His family was the constant center of his world, and he carried himself with a quiet strength and sincerity that touched everyone who knew him.

Those fortunate enough to call Rich a friend experienced his kindness and genuine care firsthand. He cultivated friendships that endured decades, starting from his school years and blossoming through his professional life, when colleagues quickly became lifelong companions. Rich had a remarkable way of making people feel understood and valued, leaving a lasting impression that will be carried forward by many.

Outside of his family and career, Rich delighted in simple pleasures that brought him joy and comfort. He was an avid golfer and found peace working in his yard. His enthusiasm for live sports—both playing and watching—was infectious. Rich also held a deep appreciation for Italian culture, savoring its rich food and traditions. Technology, especially his phone, was another interest that kept him connected to those he loved.

Rich is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Pam Hendel; his son, Scott (Lucian); his daughter Lori Hendel; and his sister Mary Beth Sullins, along with many extended family members and friends who cherished him deeply. The fabric of his life was woven with the presence of these loved ones who surrounded him to the end. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Elizabeth Hendel, and his nephew, Stephen Sullins.

As we reflect on the extraordinary life of Richard “Rich” Lee Hendel, we honor a man whose legacy is not measured merely by his accomplishments, but by the love, loyalty, and kindness he radiated. He leaves behind a family and a circle of friends forever grateful for his unwavering support and the warmth of his heart. His memory will endure in the lives he touched and the enduring bonds he forged, a testament to a life well-lived and a soul deeply cherished.
