Robert (Bob) M. Hough was born on March 30, 1954, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and passed away on December 11, 2025, at home in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri. He grew up in Mariemont, Ohio, where he made so many lifelong friends. He received his undergraduate degree in Geology from Denison University where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi and received his master’s degree in Geology from the University of Tulsa.

Bob had a successful and prolific career in Dallas, Texas as a well-known and highly respected geologist for over 40 years. He loved studying maps and logs. He was an exceptional guitar player and had a beautiful voice. At different times he was a boat captain, a sailor, a radio DJ, a band member. He was an avid baseball fan, a music aficionado, a golfer, and loved to travel. He was funny, approachable, and especially generous. He was a member of the Dallas Geological Society, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Dallas Petroleum Club, Dallas Wildcat Committee, and Winghaven Country Club.

He is survived by his partner of 25 years, Ella Kidd, and his daughter, Katie Hough Gelsheimer and her husband Ross, along with beloved grandchildren, Benjamin David, Max Robert, and Elizabeth “Libby” Kelsey. He is also survived by his brother, Andy Hough (Debbie); his sister, Julie Torres (Albert); and his sister-in-law, Candi Hough; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth McKenzie O'Donnell; his older brother, Tom Hough; and his father, Jack Hough.

A celebration of life will take place next month in Dallas, Texas.

Bob leaves behind a legacy filled with laughter, love, and wonderful memories. The impact of his life will resonate in us and he will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His effect on our lives has been profound. Rest in peace, Pop.
