Robert Louis "Bob" Zilm, age 87, passed peacefully on July 10, 2026, after a brief illness.
Bob lived a life defined by a strong work ethic, devotion to his family, kindness, and quiet strength. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Born on June 22, 1939, in Peoria, Illinois, Bob was the son of Lester A. Zilm and Edna Mae Zilm (née McCully). On September 4, 1965, he married the love of his life, Phyllis A. Zilm (née Betts), beginning a marriage that spanned more than 60 years and was built on love, partnership, and unwavering devotion.
Bob was a talented graphic designer and artist whose creativity touched both his professional and personal life. He retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. in 1989 and later from Venture Stores, Inc. in 1998.
An avid fisherman, Bob looked forward to his twice-yearly fishing trips with close friends, spending countless happy hours pursuing crappie and bass. He took great pride in caring for those he loved, remained active throughout his life, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His quiet generosity, dependability, and gentle nature earned him the respect and affection of family, friends, neighbors, and all who knew him.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis; his daughter, Gianna Zilm and her partner, Rick Schultz; his brother, James Zilm and wife, Janice; several nephews; and many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory. He also leaves behind two beloved grand-cats who brought him much joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marge Seymour (née Zilm).
Bob's family will remember him for his artistic talents, his love of fishing, his steadfast support, and the many quiet ways he showed his love and care for others. Though he is no longer with us, his memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Bob's memory at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to any not-for-profit animal rescue organization.
