Rodney F. (“Rod”) Hill, age 83, of St. Charles, MO, went to be with Jesus on March 16, 2026. He was born in Omaha, NE on June 25, 1942, to Dearl R. and M. Marie Hill (nee Atkinson). The parents grew up in Breckenridge, MO. Rod married Cheryl S. Barklage in St. Charles in 1970. Cheryl is a 1963 graduate of St. Charles, MO High School and a 1967 graduate from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: Children: Matthew T. Hill (Nancy) of Woodridge, IL, Katie E. Rash (Chris) of St. Charles, MO, Andrew P. Hill (Sarah) of St. Charles, MO, Grandchildren: McKenna Hill, Aubrey Hill, Nathan Hill, Daniel Rash, Mark Hill, James Hill, Ben Rash, Eric Hill and Heidi Hill, Brother: Gordon G. Hill (Frances 1938-2020) of Maryville, MO, Sister: Elaine Iwinski (Larry 1943-1975) of Clearwater, FL.
Rod grew up in Maryville, MO where he completed high school in 1960. His introduction to business was working in his father’s grocery store on the courthouse square. His father was an innovative grocer who introduced air conditioning, self-service meats, and frozen foods to the store. Rod’s grocery career grew from sorting pop bottles in the second grade, to bottling vinegar, bagging potatoes, learning to be a cashier, as well as the carry-out boy. He is particularly thankful for his high school years at Maryville High School, where his classmates were achievers, particularly in journalism and math. His high school class has been faithful in scheduling reunions which has developed life-time friends.
In the first year of college, Rod attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. After transferring to the University of Missouri in Columbia, Rod completed BS and MA degrees from the business school in 1964 and 1965, respectively. In 1969, he became a CPA. Most of Rod’s career has been in the area of audit and financial management. He had work experience in St. Louis with Price Waterhouse, May Department Stores Company, Edison Brothers Stores, Petrolite, and Bi-State Development Agency.
The most significant fact about Rod is that in 1975 God saw his need for a Savior, convicted him of his sin, and called him to become a born-again believer in Jesus Christ (John 3:3). Since 1975, he had full assurance of Biblical salvation and an appreciation of the importance of being an active member in a biblical church.
