Russell William Cissell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on November 11, 2025, at his home in Portage Des Sioux, Missouri, surrounded by family. Born on June 28, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri, Russell lived a life full of dedication, service, and love.
A proud veteran, Russell served honorably in the U.S. Army Security Agency (ASA) from January 28, 1966, to January 27, 1970, attaining the rank of Specialist Five (SP5/E-5). He entered active duty in St. Louis, Missouri. He served 2 tours in Vietnam (RVN), holding Top Secret Special Intel Clearance (TSSI). He earned several commendations. He was honorably discharged with final processing in Fort Devens, Massachusetts.
Russell served as a Maintenance Engineer for Inmont Corporation and Combustion Engineering in St. Louis before taking on the role of Harbor Master for My River Home Marina in Portage Des Sioux.
Russell’s spirit was warm and inviting; he was known for his kindness, fun-loving nature, and great sense of humor. His generosity knew no bounds, and he had a unique talent for thoughtful gift-giving that brought joy to those around him. He demonstrated a dedication to service as a valued member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), serving the community as a local volunteer firefighter and flood plain manager.
Russell leaves behind his cherished family: wife, Suzanne Cissell; sons, Russell Cory (Mary) Cissell and Bradley Spray; brother Dr. Michael F. (Susan) Cissell; niece Dawn (Anthony) Gioia; nephew Steven Cissell; granddaughters Crystal (Matt) Reed and Sierra with her fiancé, John Konys; and great-grandson Samuel Russell Cissell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell H. Cissell and Winona I. Cissell.
A memorial gathering will be held on November 21, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri, starting at 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM. Russell's legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
