Siegfried Michael Schottenhaml, fondly known as "Sieg," was born on July 29, 1932, in Dachau, Germany. He embarked on a journey that would see him leave his homeland for the United States, where he would lead a life rich with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. With profound sorrow, we announce that Sieg passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family in St. Charles, Missouri.
A man of remarkable skill and creativity, Sieg forged a successful career as a Tool and Die Maker for over 30 years. His time in this vocation was marked not only by his craftsmanship but also by a commitment to excellence that made him a respected figure in his field. But beyond his professional achievements, it was his personal endeavors that truly captured the essence of who he was. Sieg’s most cherished accomplishment was undoubtedly the love he shared over 55 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Leona "Lee" Schottenhaml. Together, they built a family filled with joy.
Sieg took immense pride in his beloved children, Michael (Vickie) Schottenhaml and Katherine Guloff. He delighted in sharing his passions and traditions with them, instilling the values of hard work, kindness, and integrity. Sieg's legacy extends further, encompassing his granddaughter, Laura Guloff, and great-grandson, Christian Malone. Sieg is also survived by his long time best friend, Mike McCarter, who he spent many happy hours enjoying each other's company.
An extraordinary storyteller, Sieg often reminisced about his childhood in Germany, affectionately referring to it as the "Old Country." His loving, funny personality endeared him to all who crossed his path—friends and strangers alike. To those closest to him, he was more than just a friend; he was family, always ready to lend a helping hand and make anyone feel valued. Sieg was a jack of all trades, with a remarkable ability to tackle any household project. His home was truly a reflection of his talents, as he built one of his homes from the ground up with his own hands, a testament to his determination and resourcefulness.
Sieg’s presence was defined not only by his familial bonds but also by a vast network of lifelong friendships. He served honorably in the United States Army, an experience that he was very proud of. Sieg also held many friendships that lasted many years, including the shared pride of becoming American citizens with his dear friend Rudy.
While he cherished the peaceful days spent watching baseball and skiing in the Alps with his brother John, it was the moments spent teaching his son Mike the joys of soccer that brought him immense happiness. One of his favorite past times was to spend time hunting in the Deer Woods with his friends and family. Sieg’s love for his family was evident in every smile, every shared meal, and every joyous occasion.
In addition to his living family members, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lee, whose absence will be profoundly felt. He is also survived by the memories of his son-in-law, David Guloff, his brother John, and his dearest friends: Danny Hoffman, Rudy Reiner, and Walter Winkler, all of whom enriched his life in countless ways.
Sieg's life was one of service, love, and friendship, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. As we gather to celebrate his remarkable journey, we are reminded of the loving spirit that characterized his life. The visitation will take place on August 5, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, MO, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, where we will honor the legacy of a truly wonderful man. His loving warmth and jest will live on in our memories, forever guiding us through life with the lessons he imparted and the love he so freely gave.
