Stephen Gerard Chrun

Stephen Gerard Chrun, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, at the age of 73. He was born on September 26, 1952, in St. Louis, to the late Lorraine G. and Theodore G. Chrun.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Toni Picard; his children, Amanda (Chris) Mohr, Christopher Chrun, and Matthew Chrun; and his stepchildren, Adrian (Maricel) Picard and Arin Picard. He was a devoted grandfather to Ryan White, Adelyn Mohr, Louis Mohr, and Levi Chrun. He is also survived by his siblings, Greg Chrun, Rich Chrun, Karen (Ed) Ernst, Sue (John) Happe, Diane Chrun, Mark (Christy) Chrun, Nancy (Joe) Estes, Ted Chrun, and Debbie Kuhn.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Michael Chrun; his stepchild, Alex Picard; his great-nephew, Anthony; and his grandson, Ryan Robert White, who held a cherished place in Steve’s heart.

Charismatic, quick-witted, and unapologetically himself, Steve was the realest man many of us ever knew and, without a doubt, the funniest. He was full of wit, wisdom, and grit. His storytelling could turn the simplest moment into an Oscar-worthy performance, and he had the natural ability to talk to absolutely anyone. If you were in his circle, you likely have stories of spending time on the water or around a campfire, laughing at his jokes, listening to stories about his family, especially his kids and grandkids, or maybe catching a good-natured insult or two just to keep you on your toes, and remember who you’re dealing with. Above all, being in his circle meant having the gift of his support, which was unconditional and unshakable.

Steve loved his family deeply. He showed up for them, and everyone he cared about, by offering excellent advice and a compassionate ear. He adored his grandchildren Ryan, Levi, Adelyn, and Louis, and took immense pride in being their "Papa Steve."

His colleagues knew him as one of the best in the business at de-escalating situations at the casino. While not an easy task for most, it was a walk in the park for Steve, and a reflection of his natural ability to connect with people and make them feel heard.

He loved being near the water and was especially happy at his recently purchased river house, where he spent precious time making memories with Toni.

Throughout his life, he was known by many names and held special places in people's hearts: Dad, Papa Steve, Uncle Steve, and Skinny. Whatever name you called him, the impression he left was large and lasting. He will be lovingly remembered and is already deeply missed by his wife, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and friends.

Steve was always full of advice (much of which can’t be shared in mixed company), but he always said, “You only need a handful of good friends.” Steve left this world with far more than a mere handful of people who loved him; an irrefutable sign of a life well-lived and loved.
