Steven Wayne Davenport, also known as Brother Steve or Gampy, was born on May 30, 1954, in Joplin, Missouri. He passed away peacefully in his home on September 1, 2025, surrounded by his family. His life was a testament to faith, love, and unwavering devotion, which he shared generously with all who knew him.

From an early age, Steven's spiritual journey began when, at just 10 years old, he accepted Jesus as his Savior. This moment set the course for a life dedicated to the ministry and caring for others. He obtained his Master's Degree in Bible Theology at the International Bible Institute and Seminary, preparing him for a lifetime of service within the church. His career spanned numerous roles, including minister of youth at Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin and the music and youth ministry at Florissant Valley Baptist Church. Combined with his 38 years as the pastor of Oakridge Baptist Church, he truly left a remarkable legacy behind.

Steven was known for his outgoing personality, ability to talk to anyone and infectious sense of humor. He was always ready to deliver a dad joke, bring laughter, and spread joy among those around him. He had a youthful spirit that drew people in and made them feel cherished. His compassion and faithfulness were evident in every interaction, whether with his beloved family, his church family and even strangers. Steven was always there for everyone, lending a listening ear or a warm heart, making him a beacon of light in many lives.

His hobbies reflected his passion for sharing the Gospel. Brother Steve’s hope was that everyone would come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior and would one day rejoice with him in Heaven. He found joy in singing hymns and choruses while playing his guitar, often uplifting spirits with his melodies. He cherished his time spent with family, especially loving on his grandchildren. Steven enjoyed collecting various gadgets—from guitars to flashlights and watches to electronic devices. A true bargain hunter, he would proudly call his finds "Davenport Deals". His love for photography, particularly close-ups, allowed him to capture beautiful memories in stunning detail.

Steven's proudest accomplishments include marrying his high school sweetheart, Linda Jean Davenport (formerly Crabb), in 1973. Their deep bond and partnership flourished throughout the years, despite each glance between them seeming as if they had just met and together they nurtured a family that included nine children: Stephanie (Rod Laurentius) Davis, Stacie Davenport (Abraham Nerio Escarcega), Nathan (Sandra) Davenport, Kellie (Marcus) Stahlman, Corrie (John) Ricehouse, David & family, Andrew (Amanda) Davenport, Christie (Joshua) Gulledge, and Julie Davenport. He treasured the joy of being a grandfather to Alia and Aleksandr Davis; Evalyn and Samuel Davenport; Landon, Jade, and Lincoln Stahlman; Robin, Zane, Liam, Seth, and Rhys Ricehouse; Garrett Gulledge; Leah and Claire Laurentius, finding such happiness in their laughter and love.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, his nine loving children, and his grandchildren, alongside his brothers, Tom and Richard Davenport. We know Steven is in Heaven celebrating with all who have gone before him including his parents, Thomas and Mary Davenport, his father and mother-in-law, Gene and Colleen Crabb, and his son-in-law, Brad Davis.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. - John 3:16 (NKJV)
