Steven Phillip Herbert, January 14, 1957 – March 26, 2025, Age 68.
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Steven Phillip Herbert, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and comfort of his children. He was 68 years old.
Steven was born in Champaign, Illinois, and lived a life marked by resilience, pride, and deep devotion to his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. During his service, he traveled the world—visiting England, Italy, Morocco, Israel, Greece, Egypt, Tunisia, France, and Spain. He trained to become a Navy SEAL, but a knee injury during ocean training while carrying a Combat Rubber Raiding Craft ended that journey. He was honorably discharged in San Diego, California, where he welcomed his son into the world.
Steven was a proud father, and his children were his greatest accomplishment. His strength, toughness, and quiet wisdom left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He taught by example—imparting lessons of respect, love, and mental toughness, even when he didn’t realize it. To his children, he was not just a dad, but a hero.
He loved his family deeply and enjoyed many passions throughout his life: working as an electrician, fishing, deer hunting, working out, karate, playing the trumpet, listening to music, and working on cars. He was a jack of all trades, always willing to lend a hand and take on a challenge.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Juliann Herbert, and his sister, Cynthia Herbert. He is survived by his children: Brian, Julie, and Jeffrey Herbert, his granddaughter Andrea Herbert, his brother Michael Herbert, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
