Steven Clay Long

Steve was born in Florissant, MO, but raised in Sikeston, MO. After graduating from high school in 1969, he attended the University of Missouri at Rolla. Upon completing one year of college, he enlisted in the Navy, serving during the Vietnam War on the USS Truxton, a nuclear powered frigate.

Steve completed his service in the Navy in 1976, and began a career in the nuclear power industry traveling around the country. Steve met the love of his life while working in St. Charles, MO. He retired in 2015. This allowed him more time to express his interest in golfing, cooking, and baking. His cheesecakes were loved by all.

Steve became an avid golfer during his time in the Navy and continued golfing his entire life. He is one of only a few people that can claim four holes-in-one. He also enjoyed bowling and had at least one 300 game. Both Steve and Karen had a goal of traveling to all 50 states. Unfortunately, he only made it to 49 of the 50 states.

Steve was always ready to help friends and family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

At the heart of Steven’s life was his family. He is survived by his wife, Karen Long, whose partnership and presence were an important part of his life. He is also survived by Karen’s sons, Patrick Spencer and Andrew Spencer, who were part of the family circle he cherished. Steven is further survived by his sister, Susan Kelly, and by his brother, Kevin Long and his wife, Melinda. The family who remains to honor his memory carries forward the love, connection, and enduring bonds that shaped his life.

Steven was preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry and Betty Long, and by his sister, Jean Long. Their memories remained an enduring part of the story of his life, and he now rests in their company.
