Sue Bennett

October 11, 1943 — July 26, 2025

Old Monroe

Susan (Sue, Suzy, Susie) age 81, of Old Monroe, Missouri passed away on July 26, 2025 in O’Fallon, Missouri after a massive stroke on July 15, 2025. She was born in Peoria, Illinois on October 11, 1943, to Harold Vincent and Holland Lauraine (nee Petty) Bowlby.

Suzy began her schooling in Moline and then on to Eureka, both in St. Louis County. The family then moved to Bowling Green, Missouri to run one of the Stark Orchards. Then returning to Eureka for the remainder of her educational life. Suzy was blessed with a little sister, Sara Jane, before her second birthday, but not another sister Elizabeth (Betsy) Lee for another thirteen years. She was a member of the Eureka Chapter of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Suzy met the love of her life, Roger Wayne Bennett in 1958 on a blind date. They wed on March 12, 1960, and were happily married sixty-four years. They went on to have successfully raised four children: Terri Lee, Judith Ann, William Alan, and James Michael.

Suzy was a stay-at-home mother, and childcare provider for a family in the neighborhood, until Michael went to kindergarten. She did cake decorating as a hobby as well. She also helped her sister with her children for extended periods of time, so she was a very busy Mom. Her first full-time job was at Midwest Library Service. Then trying her hand at McKelvey and Kelly as a Realtor. Continuing her work life as first a Rural Mail Carrier Associate-Substitute and then as full time Rural Carrier out of the O’Fallon Post Office for the total of twenty-three years, “neither snow nor rain, heat nor gloom of night” keeping her from her appointed rounds. She was a member of Missouri Rural Letter Carriers Association (MORLCA).

Suzy was a supportive military wife of thirty-four years, as husband Roger served in the Missouri Air National Guard as both a full-time technician and weekend guard member.

She attended the Zion Primitive Baptist Church, Springfield Missouri for many years. Also, a member locally of the Dardenne Baptist Church, O’Fallon, Missouri.

In retirement Suzy enjoyed traveling, being with family, watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up, reading and doing her beloved diamond art crafts. Family was the primary focus of her life.

Suzy is survived by her four children, Terri (Tom), Judi, William (Carol), Michael (Nancy). Much loved grandchildren, Tori (John), Hayden, Charlie (Grace), Tommy, and Stephen. Two great-great grandchildren, Leo and Julian. Beloved sister-in-law Kathie Bennett. Sisters Sara Singh and Betsy Smith, and a host of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband Roger Bennett, parents Harold and Holland Bowlby, mother and father-in-law Jewell and Jack Bennett, and grandson Tommy McKeon.
