Thomas A. Podhorn passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours on Saturday, July 19, 2025, with his beloved wife holding his hand. He was 86.
He was born in Alton, Illinois, and was the son of Andrew and Margaret (Purvis) Podhorn.
Tom married Lois Schuppan and together they had two beautiful children. Later, on March 17, 1995 - St. Patrick's Day - Tom married Nancy Henkhaus. They chose the day intentionally, believing themselves lucky to have found one another. Their marriage was the second chance of love, and together they shared 30 beautiful years, filled with laughter, family gatherings, travel adventures, and unwavering devotion.
Tom was a lover of life and learning, always seeking new things to learn and new relationships to form. In 1986, he graduated from SIUE after returning to college as an adult to enhance his knowledge and career. He focused his organizational talents on growth and learning as a 41 year employee with Cope Plastic in Godfrey, Illinois spending the last 15 years serving as their VP of marketing.
Family is much more than blood, it is love. Tom was loved and loved well. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his beloved daughter, Stephanie Greenhalgh and her spouse Al; his cherished son, Drew Podhorn. As a blended family, Tom is also survived by his two step-children, and their spouses: Carrie and Jake Alvernia and Jake and Erica Henkhaus. They all loved and adored him.
Tom was a proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Lorine Podhorn, Tristan, Cole, Garrett, and Camden Alvernia; and Will and Mady Henkhaus. His eyes lit up most when he spoke of them.
He is also survived by two sisters: Doris Heinz and Norma Peipert-Novosell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Podhorn, and a sister, Mary Burns.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 2 pm until 4 pm with a memorial service starting at 4 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home: 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376.
Donations may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association in memory of Tom Podhorn.
